Site update log:
I don't know if I'll update this forever, but since this is new and exciting, I thought I could keep track of goals and updates here! For ease of reading, I think I'll list things in reverse order, with latest update first. So here goes...
2025.08.14
Wow, I didn't realize it'd been so long since my last progress! But today I got some imagery uploaded on the homepage. Next I need to figure out how to code it to fit how I want--to the side of the text on desktop and above it on mobile. We'll see what references I find!

I am so proud of my progress today. It was like all the things I've been struggling with for days all clicked into place. The site logo is in, I upgraded the nav bar, and uploaded a favicon! And bonus points, everything works on mobile too!
I'm really enjoying the multi-media look in the header. It's going to be a very cool theme applied across the site. I've got ideas for pinned pictures, scrap paper container boxes... I'm hyped. And I have a very cool idea for animating the nav links when hovered over. We'll see if I can pull it off!

I figured out how to get a background image at the top of the site! Yay! And after much research and experimentation, I finally figured out how to put an image behind the nav bar. I need to figure out how to move the nav bar up a bit now, but I'm so happy I got the image working!
Oh and I also added a new site for you to peruse. Check it out on the home page!

For some reason I couldn't for the life of me get the CSS for my link formatting to work. I've been browsing the site of comic artist Kaylee Rowena (she/they) and she had a template for a portfolio site that looks stunning!
I didn't use the code really, though I referenced how they did navigation. But her CSS worked like a charm. I still can't figure out why their CSS is working, but not mine...
Anyway, I did manage to edit her CSS to better match what I imagined for my site, though kept some of their design choices I liked better. Things are gradually improving!
The update log is now on its own page as planned. I also worked on an experimental table for blog posts. I'm pretty proud of the progress.
Next goals are figuring out how to use background images for the effects I want (I played with it a bit today and couldn't get what I envisioned), and getting the blog page operational (or closer to it lol).
Chugging right along!

I added a footer and tried to get its CSS working on my stylesheet, but couldn't seem to figure it out. So insted I used inline styling as a placeholder and set up a placeholder blog page.
I just reached navigation html in my tutorials, so I'm hoping I can start playing around with a navigation bar next. I think I'll also make a new page for these update logs and style my links.

I made it through the CSS Beginner Tutorial and threw some simple, placeholder formatting on the site. I'm aiming for a sort of notebook paper look with the colors and lines. Not too shabby for my first go!
Up next is diving into the intermediate tutorials, I think. I have started brainstorming what I'd like in the bigger site, but I need to learn things like how to set up menus and things before I'll be able to make great navigation. I'd also like to up my formatting game and, if possible, learn to make things nice for mobile too. Though the latter may be in the advanced tutorials...
Anyway, I'm learning a lot!

I finished HTML Dog's HTML Beginner Tutorial and updated the content of this page. Before it was all sorts of tutorial code and placeholders. Now it's a bit more put together. Good enough until I learn more and actually have more content on the site anyway!
Next on my list is to go through the CSS Beginner Tutorial. See if we can get the content looking better. But maybe I'll also start on ideas of what the larger site might look like? I don't know. It may be smart to stick to basics for now lol. We'll see.

I joined neocities! Their beginner crash course was very helpful and got this page started.
